Projects Description

Sustainable Organic Farming

Destiny Center’s sustainable farming project equips students and local community members with practical skills in organic agriculture. Many families face food insecurity due to poor farming methods, soil degradation, and over-reliance on chemicals. This initiative teaches eco-friendly practices like composting, crop rotation, natural pest control, and water conservation.

Through hands-on training and mentorship, participants learn to grow healthy food while preserving the environment. The project not only boosts household nutrition and incomes but also nurtures a generation of environmentally conscious farmers who can pass on these skills and transform their communities.

Clean Water Saves life

Destiny Center’s clean water project confronts the widespread issue of water-borne diseases in underserved Kenyan communities. Although about 80% of households in Kenya access improved water sources, nearly 19 million people still depend on unsafe supplies like rivers and shallow wells (UNICEF, 2023). These sources often carry dangerous pathogens that lead to illnesses such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea. According to the WHO, over 1 million people die globally each year from diarrheal diseases linked to unsafe water, poor sanitation, and hygiene. Children under five are particularly at risk.

To address this, Destiny Center distributes bio-sand filters, simple household devices that eliminate up to 99% of bacteria, over 99.9% of protozoa, and 85–95% of viruses (CAWST). The project pairs these donations with hands-on training in hygiene, water handling, and sanitation to ensure sustainable behavior change. This combined approach leads to improved health, fewer missed school and work days, and reduced medical expenses. By promoting safe water access, Destiny Center empowers families and supports the long-term well-being of entire communities.

Project's Testimonials

Esther N. Mother of Four – Survey, Laikipia North

Before the bio-sand filter, we used to boil water every day, but sometimes we didn’t have enough firewood. My youngest child would get sick often. Since receiving the filter, we’ve not had any cases of typhoid or stomach upsets.

Albert Youth Leader, Nyahururu

Destiny Center’s training opened our eyes. We learned how to grow food without using expensive chemicals. Now we have a small group farming organically, and we sell vegetables at the market. It has brought income and pride to our village.

Steve Youth Leader-Laikipia North

We had long suffered because of unsafe water, especially during dry seasons. Now, with the filters and hygiene education, our women spend less time fetching water, and our children are healthier. We are so grateful for this gift
